TACFLEET Notes:

A basic design of eighty years heritage, this vessel has been the
mainstay of the Klingon Defense Force, and a useful source of funding
for the Klingon government; with over two hundred of these ships in
various guises being used by freelance security task forces, military
alliances etc. The Nh'Briht Alliance of Beta Quadrant is known to
keep a fleet of fifty G10-Class "K'Vort" vessels in good working
order, with well-disciplined crews.

Rugged, reliable and trustworthy, K'Vort Birds-of-Prey have regularly
engaged Romulan Warbirds in battle since their introduction in the
early 2300s. During these times of war, these ships were configured
as fast response ships, patrolling a number of systems in groups of 2
to 6. More recently, K'Vort variants have become lighter, with
improved systems and standard weaponry; the G9 variant finally
letting a Klingon Captain use aft mounted phase disruptors as a
tactical weapon, and have the ability to cruise at warp six.

A single K'Vort was always at a disadvantage to the superior
firepower and tactical computer systems of a GALAXY-Class Light
Cruiser, but a pair of the vessels could dispatch a poorly prepared
Romulan Warbird with relative ease.

Always sufficiently quick, and certainly a match for Romulan vessels,
K'Vorts always sacrificed speed for weapons and endurance.
Overengineered, the sturdy yet flexible impulse drives made for a
powerful and agile vessel in sublight maneuvers, like all
Birds-of-Prey.

Well armed, further weapons upgrades are becoming more and more
difficult as the basic spaceframe does not keep up with advances in
disruptor systems and the new generation of to'peng and Duppeng
torpedoes. K'Vort continues to use the venerable peng'otlh design,
in service since the 2330s. Since the G9 refit, however, all ships
use the teqyoD-Class deflector system, a unit still under examination
by StarFleet Engineering.

The biggest K'Vort weak point, as the ship extends service into the
2400s, is the elderly machSo'wI' Cloak, as used by late B'Rel-class
scouts. The design was amazingly compact in its day, yet recent
service records suggest that it is difficult to maintain, and
relatively easy to spot an ill-repaired cloaked K'Vort. The most
obvious tell-tale is an intermittent ionised plasma trace emitted
from impulse drive radiation venting, unsuccessfully masked by the
cloak.
